Ensign Vorrut had his instructions, so he set off to the shuttle bay in a hurry. His instructions were clear. He was to meet the new Chief Tactical Officer who was due to arrive on his shuttle today. He was to then take him to the medical bay for his routine Physical. The Midway does not have a Chief Medical Officer assigned yet so the responsibility fell on to the Assistant Chief Medical Officer to complete this. Routine Physicals was a requirement of Alpha Fleet for all new officers and enlisted personnel transferring to a new assignment. He reached shuttle bay 1A, just in time to see his shuttle landing on the pad. He waited by the lowering shuttle doors for him to emerge with a smile on his face.
Finally having arrived, Lukas was thrilled finally get off the shuttle. His trip with his favorite flygirl had been longer than he wanted, but that was to be expected. The galaxy was big after all. He gathered his belongings into the carry on and began to exit the shuttle, walking out the back door. He first looked back at space, where they were protected by the standard force field. Before he could even think about anything else, he felt a gaze piercing his side.
"Well hello there," Lukas said to the Ensign.
Ensign Vorrut looked up at the young human. "Good day sir. My name is Ensign Vorrut. I am one of the nurses here aboard the USS-Midway. I've been instructed to escort you to the medical bay to see the Assistant Chief Medical Officer for your standard routine Physical upon your transfer. I hope your flight was comfortable?" Looking at the Commander, motioned for him to follow while they talked.
"Ish," Lukas responded. "Two and a half weeks in a shuttle is a bit cramped." As Lukas followed along with the ensign, he looked at the Ensign, squinting his eyes in inquisitively. "You guys sure take your initial physicals seriously. I haven't even gone to my quarters or met with the Captain yet."
Walking towards the medical bay, Vorrut chuckles a bit. "I would say so! What did you do to get assigned way out here?" Laughing but continuing to chat as he orders the turbolift to the medical bay. "Yes Lieutenant Commander Prunes does indeed take her job seriously. She's also the acting Chief Medical Officer at the moment because the Midway does not have one assigned yet so she's trying to stay on top of everything and I don't blame her. She also wants to make sure no virus or bacteria gets aboard the Midway. She's huge about health and works hard to ensure that this crew remains that way. Things can get... Well pretty sticky out here in the deep end, so to speak" chuckling a bit more. "Don't worry about your quarters or the captain, all in due time. After your physical you will be taken to see the quartermaster and then after that, I'm sure the captain would love to meet with you as that is of course standard protocol in your position as well upon a transfer".
Lukas nodded. "I can appreciate that. Far be it from me to not follow protocol." Lukas, of course, was very familiar with protocol. After all, as a Security chief, protocol was king and must be followed. But then his focus turned to Vorrut's first question. "It must be my charm. I've talked my way into and out of a few predicaments and had a hand in defending Starbase 72 a few times. They must have thought I could handle it." He chuckled a bit. He was up for the task, of course, and was very happy to be on ship once again. He frequently was sent off on missions on the garrison ships of Starbase 72. He loved being out there.
The turbolift came to a halt and the doors opened to reveal a dazzling highly advanced medical bay. A stern but kind looking female figure sat her desk. Ensign Vorrut walked up to her "Commander, this is Commander Lukas Hartmon, our new Chief Tactical Officer, I brought him to you as instructed.
She was busy at her desk writing up a fury on her medical tablet. She looked up at Vorrut. "Thanks Ensign, you can go back to your duties, and don't forget about bringing me that new Chief Science Officer as well when he arrives." Vorrut looked back at her "Yes sir." And then turned to the young male once more. "Congratulations on your position Commander, I'm sure I'll be seeing your around the ship." And he walked off to return to his duties.
"Hello Commander, I am Lieutenant Commander Meseen Prunes, I am the Assistant Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Midway and for now I am also the Chief Medical Officer until one is appointed. We sadly lost our old one in a battle with the Dominion some time ago and we have yet to be reassigned one so I've been handling things for now. Alright, well I've read a bit about you on your record but what else can you tell me about yourself? Do you have any medical concerns I should be aware of? Do you take any medication. Give me a detailed medical history of yourself." Smiling broadly at the human and motioning for him to sit down across from her.
"My condolences on the loss of your Chief. I've lost a few comrades over the years." Lukas gathered his thoughts on his own medical history, something he really didn't think much about. "Let's see, probably the only medical concern you should be worried about is I sometimes do stupid things. I'm sure my record has a red flag on it for broken bones. My last CMO considered my quarters a secondary office. Fortunately, poker night helped." He chuckled. "Other than that, I do not currently take any medication and as far as I know, I don't have any medical conditions other than a proclivity to do something that might break a bone."
"Yes, it was sad, there was a time for grieving by all the crew for sure. I know my councilors in the department were running wild that week and not only because of him sadly. Well, it's the name of the game when your out here unfortunately. We all know what we signed up for. At least we should" chuckling a bit and then moving on "Yes, I did notice that on your record. Your last CMO had quite a few words about you" laughs a bit and then continues "Alright, now tell me about your family history. Any family history of epilepsy, heart attacks, strokes, ptsd, Alzheimer's or anything else major like that, that I should be aware of?
Lukas shook his head. "Not that I'm aware of. I think my maternal grandfather had a heart attack once, but I think there were outside influences not health related." He was certainly fortunate. There were any number of ailments the folks were afflicted with these days.
"Alright, then I'll just do a standard checkup on you, take some blood work and then you will be all good to go." She set to work on him, measuring his temperature, his breathing rate, listening to his lungs. She performed an ECG and an X-ray of his whole body. Prunes then took a standard blood panel and asked him to pee in a cup. By the time they were done, an hour had passed and Lukas must have been feeling like he was an experiment for her. "There we go, all done. My orders are now to direct you directly to the bridge to go see the captain, after which you will be assigned your quarters by the quartermaster in ops. I'm sure you can find your way up a turbolift unless you'd rather have me send Vorrut with you again?" She winked at him and then smiled waiting for his reply.
Lukas laughed, "No I think I'll leave him to his own stuff. No sense in wasting time holding my hand. Thanks for your time." He nodded out of respect and took his leave, heading for a short ride to the bridge.
